Attempt 1
Being brand new to Illustrator has been a little tough for me but so far, I'd like to think I'm getting the hang of things. I also had trouble uploading my work so far so this is actually a screenshot of my work...
I'm thinking of using the lamp as a sun and creating a solar system around it or turning it into a sunrise or sunset.
Maddie, your lamp looks wonderful! I was surprised to hear you say you are new to the process. I think your use of value and shading is very successful. I also really like the way you have designed the wire cord showing on the opposite side of the lamp. The differentiation in value really helps the viewer see the depth here. I think your idea of incorporating the sun and solar system sounds really cool!! My vote is definitely for sunrise, but either way I think it's going to turn out really great!

Hi Maddie! I totally agree with Julia that the cord is the most convincing thing about your image- the differences in tone are very effecting in creating depth. The lampshade is also really well done- before the rest of your image loaded, it was the only part I could see and I was so impressed! I am also new to illustrator and the gradient tool was giving me some issues so I think you executed those areas really well! Great job!
ReplyDeleteHey Maddie, I really love your idea of turning this image into the solar system and can't wait to see if you choose to continue on that path. I also enjoy the smoothness of your gradients and colors, having such smooth gradients can make mistakes stand out, but you don't seem to have any!
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice to see some more depth/reflectiveness in the glass, although you do already have the warping of the cord, which works as a nice indicator that it is glass.
Hi Maddie, I hope you're proud of yourself for learning a new skill at such a fast rate! The tracing of your image looks cohesive and seamless to the viewer. I really enjoy the variance of value applied to the lampshade in it's gradients and I think this adds great visual intrigue. Your idea of combining a solar system, sunrise, or sunset with your lamp feels organic and intuitive. I'm excited to see what you choose! I think it might be interesting to play with some light and shadow on the glass base to signify its reflective materiality. Additionally, something else to maybe toy around with, could be playing with another value of grey on the angle lampshade where it's currently white. Looking forward to seeing your idea come to fruition. You're doing great!
ReplyDeleteHey Maddie! Illustrator has definitely been something challenging to learn, but I think so far you have done really well! The gradient tool also takes a little practice to get the hand of it but I think you're handling it really well. I'm intrigued about your ideas for your combination, and look forward to seeing how you plan to use the lamp. Looks great so far!!
